McDonald woman accused of scamming mother

1 min read

State police accused a woman this week of defrauding her mother out of $1,400.

Erica Bardell, 42, of McDonald, allegedly convinced her mother that she was being held against her will and needed the money to be released, state police said.

Bardell’s mother, a 70-year-old resident of Summerhill Township, Cambria County, sent Bardell the money in increments between Feb. 13 and 15.

According to state police, Bardell admitted she was not in danger and was “just trying to get money.”

State police charged her with theft by deception and financial exploitation in Cambria County.

As of Thursday’s deadline, there was no docket listed for Bardell in the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania’s online database.
