Two accused of shooting at one another outside Brownsville tavern
Two Fayette County residents are charged with attempted homicide after an exchange of gunfire outside a Luzerne Township bar in October.
Kaleia Howard, 30, of Connellsville, and Quinton Brown Jr., 33, of Brownsville, allegedly escalated a fight that had started among several people inside Jilly’s Restaurant and Tavern on Hiller Avenue.
After a brawl broke out, Howard and another woman began arguing, after which the woman threw a bottle at Howard, according to court paperwork. Her brother and Brown then started a separate physical altercation, which continued outside, the complaint said.
Surveillance footage from outside shortly after 2 a.m. showed Brown brandishing a firearm and exchanging words with Howard and her brother before getting into a Nissan Rogue, police said.
As Brown drove away, court paperwork alleged, Howard removed a handgun from her waistband and fired a single shot at him. According to the complaint, Brown returned fire, and a bullet ricocheted at Howard’s feet.
Brown and Howard were identified through surveillance and witnesses at the scene, charging documents stated.
Howard and Brown both face charges of criminal homicide, aggravated assault, propelling a missile into an occupied vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. Brown is also charged with simple assault.
Another person was also arraigned Tuesday on charges stemming from the fight.
Jamal Brown, 30, of Brownsville, allegedly punched a woman in the face who was trying to break up the fight as it moved from inside the establishment to the parking lot. He is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment.
The unnamed woman was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground, according to the complaint. Court records indicated she required treatment at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital for facial injuries, lacerations and memory loss.
No bail hearings had been held in the cases as of Wednesday morning.
