CGSD tables Margaret Bell Miller sale
The Central Greene School District Board of Education unanimously tabled a motion to sell the former Margaret Bell Miller Middle School building in Waynesburg Tuesday so board members could get more information on the future intended use.
“They gave some indication (of its use), but we just need some clarity on that,” said Superintendent Matthew Blair.
The prospective buyer was not identified at Tuesday’s meeting. Blair said he hopes the board will be able to revisit the sale in March.
Margaret Bell Miller, built in 1928, was shuttered due to concerns over the growing difficulty and expense of maintaining the aging building. The sixth grade had already been relocated to the elementary school before the middle school was closed. At the beginning of 2023, sixth- and seventh-grade students moved into the Waynesburg Central High School building.
Also Tuesday, the board approved a five-year contract with Student Transportation of America (STA) for student transportation services. Details were not immediately available because the approval is pending final contract negotiations and solicitor review.
STA submitted the winning bid over two other companies, Blair said.
The district had first explored a joint transportation agreement with Jefferson-Morgan School District and Carmichaels Area School District for the coming year. The districts later dropped the idea after bids showed a lack of operational savings from the change.
