Threat prompted modified lockdown for Bentworth School District

By Paul Paterra 1 min read

The Bentworth School District was on modified lockdown most of the day on Wednesday after a phone call that “was perceived as a threat to a staff member,” said Superintendent Scott Martin.

He said all of the district’s schools were subject to the lockdown because the buildings are close to one another. During a modified lockdown, operations inside the school buildings continue; however, visitors are not permitted past the vestibule and students are not allowed to go outside for any reason.

The schools remained in the modified lockdown while police investigated, and returned to normal operations at about 2:30 p.m.

Martin said that investigations determined that the matter will not be pursued further.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said he was contacted about the perceived threat but declined further comment.
