The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that repair work on Locust Avenue in South Strabane Township will begin on Monday, ending more than three months of uncertainty on the key connector road.

Locust Avenue between Interstate 79 and Hudak Hill Road closed in mid-March following a landslide caused by an intense rainstorm.

According to PennDOT District 12 Community Relations Coordinator Melissa Maczko, the roadway should reopen for public use in mid-October.

Allegheny County firm Allison Park Contractors will be the primary contractor to complete the necessary repairs.

Until that time, the current detour along County Club Road will remain in place, Maczko said.

In June, PennDOT secured an undisclosed amount of emergency funding to begin the repair work, which will include slope stabilization and drainage upgrades in the area.
