Locust Avenue repairs rescheduled

1 min read

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 12 updated its anticipated timeline to start work on the currently closed Locust Avenue in South Strabane Township, saying that work will begin on July 27, instead of July 13 as initially projected.

The section of roadway between Interstate 79 and Hudak Hill Road closed in March following a landslide induced by a rainstorm.

PennDOT District 12 Community Relations Coordinator Melissa Maczko estimated that the road will reopen in mid-October. Until then, the current detour following Country Club Road will remain in place, she said.

The effort to improve drainage and stabilize the deteriorated slope will cost between $1 and $2 million in total, according to Maczko.
