Washington man accused of pulling gun on customer outside convenience store
A Washington man is facing felony charges after city police said he pointed a gun at another man outside a local convenience store and threatened to kill him.
Police said Brett M. Carroll approached a man at the Uni-Mart store at 500 N. Main St. about 4 p.m. Tuesday and pulled out a handgun while demanding the man pay him a $400 debt.
“I’m going to kill you,” Carroll allegedly told the man, according to court documents. “You better run.”
Carroll chased the man as the man ran from the scene, but Carroll eventually got into an SUV and left the area, police said. Washington police were called and responded to the scene, where they were able to speak to the victim and review surveillance video of the incident, according to court documents.
The following morning, Carroll allegedly went to the man’s residence and stood outside while the victim was preparing to go to the police department to give a statement about the previous day’s incident, according to court documents.
Carroll, 32, was arrested Thursday night and arraigned by District Judge Louis McQuillan on felony charges of aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a prohibited firearm, terroristic threats, stalking, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
He is being held without bond at the Washington County jail while awaiting his preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for July 21 at 10:15 a.m.
