The Fayette County 250th Committee unveiled an Appalachian quilt commemorating the semiquincentennial at Thursday's Fayette County Commissioners meeting. Local quilter Nancy Volk led the project, where more than 140 current or former Fayette County residents crafted a quilt block depicting what the county means to them. The quilt will be displayed at the Fayette County Fair and other community events before being mounted at its permanent home in the Lafayette Meeting Room of the Gallatin Building. From left are Scott Dunn, Kenzie Hay, Nancy Volk, Daniel Nuttall (holding up the middle of the quilt), Carol Hull, Harry "Dutch" Kaufman and Vince Vicites. [Garrett Neese]
