Burgettstown economic development nonprofit to build new meeting space
The nonprofit Burgettstown Area Community Development Corporation will use an influx of recently awarded grant funding to expand its organizational and programming capacity.
According to a release, the Burgettstown Area Community Development Corporation (BACDC) will utilize $10,000 of grant funding from the Washington Financial Charitable Foundation to build a new headquarters and meeting area at 1711 Main St. in Burgettstown.
The new building will be the corporation’s first permanent meeting location, as previous meetings took place at local restaurants or staff members’ homes.
BACDC President Pamela Church said, “We are grateful to the Washington Financial Charitable Foundation and G&D General Contracting for their generous support of this important project … this new building will help BACDC grow our volunteer base, strengthen our board and better serve the community while honoring local veterans.”
“We needed someplace we could actually meet,” she said.
This building will hold a dedicated space for community events and programming, plus additional storage for Hometown Hero Veteran banners.
BACDC staff are hopeful that this space will help support the nonprofit’s volunteer involvement and plan future community initiatives, according to the release.
Washington Financial Charitable Foundation Executive Director Jasmine Hughes said, “We are proud to support the Burgettstown Area Community Development Corporation’s efforts and recognize the dedicated volunteers whose commitment continues to create meaningful community impact throughout Burgettstown and its surrounding communities.”
Church said the corporation plans to raise further funds to complete the interior of the building, including insulation and electrical work.
Assuming the BACDC is able to secure the necessary capital, Church said her goal is to have the new building fully operational by the end of 2026.
BACDC has supported economic development and community growth in the Burgettstown area since its creation in 2005, which includes the Hometown Hero Program that recognizes more than 200 local veterans, and Christmas on Main, an annual free holiday celebration for children.
BACDC also provides community amenities, including the Panhandle Trail Bike Storage Facility.
