Ohio woman wanted on homicide charges arrested in Washington following chase
An Ohio woman wanted on homicide charges in her home state – who was already on parole after pleading guilty to manslaughter 15 years ago – was arrested in Washington County after leading police on a car chase.
Pennsylvania State Police troopers spotted a car driven by 38-year-old Karenda Ann Hutsenpiller of Leavittsburgh, Ohio, on Friday morning and soon learned she was wanted on homicide charges from out of state, according to court documents.
Troopers and Washington police officers tried stopping her car at West Chestnut Street and Jefferson Avenue shortly before noon, but she drove away and police chased her vehicle through several neighborhoods in the city and East Washington Borough.
Officers used a specialized maneuver with their vehicles to stop Hustenpiller’s car on North Avenue, but she then ran from her car, police said. An East Washington police officer tackled Hustenpiller and several officers were able to subdue her, police said.
Hustenpiller was wanted on an active warrant for homicide in Ohio, although information about the charges and where the killing occurred were not immediately known.
According to Ohio Department of Corrections records, Hustenpiller was on supervised release after pleading guilty in Trumbull County Court of Common Pleas to two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Hustenpiller killed Rahman Warfield, 34, and Steven Faison, 24, on May 9, 2010 in Warren, Ohio, while going to their house to purchase drugs, according to The Vindicator newspaper. The following year, she pleaded guilty to the lesser manslaughter charges and was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison, the newspaper reported.
It’s not known how long Hustenpiller has been out of prison and on parole.
State police troopers charged her Friday with fleeing police, flight to avoid apprehension, evading arrest, accident causing damage and resisting arrest. She was arraigned by District Judge Kelly Stewart, who sent her to the Washington County jail without bond due to the active warrant and her parole status.
She is awaiting extradition back to Ohio, according to court documents.
