Houston veteran receives new roof as part of national project
On Monday, U.S. Navy veteran Sean Bernarding of Houston received a new roof from Ultimate Roofing, an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor, as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project.
Bernarding was selected for the roof replacement through a partnership with Purple Heart Homes, which provides safe, barrier-free housing solutions for disabled and aging veterans from all eras.
The nationwide initiative was created to honor veterans and show gratitude for their service. Since it was launched in 2016, more than 800 military members have received new roofs.
“It’s amazing,” said Bernarding, who served in the early 1990s. “I’m grateful for everybody who’s involved in this.”
For Bernarding, the roof replacement has brought relief.
“There are (home) repairs that I need to get done that I just haven’t been able to afford, and bills have piled up. I lost a house a couple of years ago, and I don’t want to lose this one,” said Bernarding.
For Josh Allison, Ultimate Roofing project manager, the project represents far more than just installing a roof.
“We want to give back to Sean and other veterans because he and our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country,” said Allison. “We hope the work we do gives Sean and veterans the peace of mind to know they’re safe in their homes, the same way they have provided peace of mind for us with their service.”
