Community college branch moving to Western Area Career and Technology Center
The Western Area Career and Technology Center in Chartiers Township will be the new home of the Washington County College Center, the Community College of Beaver County’s branch in the community.
The Washington County branch of the Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) is moving.
This week, the CCBC Washington County College Center is relocating from the Intermediate Unit 1 in McMurray to the Western Area Career and Technology Center. Leslie Tennant, the community college’s vice president of communications, said moving to the career and technology center will allow it to more closely collaborate with that institution, and that will “open up workforce opportunities for more adult learners throughout the region.”
Pulling up stakes will also allow the community college to offer expanded dual enrollment and early college opportunities for high school students. It is also establishing a new associate’s degree in nursing.
“Our primary goal is to continue serving the communities of Fayette, Greene and Washington counties,” Tennant said.
Later this summer, a grand opening celebration is planned. Classes for the fall semester will start Aug. 24.
Washington County has never had its own community college – efforts to get one off the ground have come to naught over the years. The Community College of Allegheny County had a branch at Washington Crown Center mall that closed in 2022. The Community College of Beaver County set up its Washington County College Center the following year.
