American Red Cross issues call for blood donors

1 min read

Saying that the need is urgent, the American Red Cross has issued a call for blood donors.

Donors of all blood types are needed to maintain a supply of blood in hospitals through the summer. Platelets are also needed. The American Red Cross has experienced a drop in scheduled donations in recent weeks, plus blood donations typically drop in the summer due to school breaks and regular donors taking vacations.

As a show of appreciation, donors who give before June 28 will receive a $15 e-gift card to the merchant of their choice. Donors will also be entered for a chance to win one of two $7,500 gift cards.

A blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health are eligible. High school students and other donors younger than 18 also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Donors can make an appointment or find out more information by going to RedCrossBlood.org, by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on an Alexa Echo device.
