Repairs to start on Peters Township aqua park
The last couple of humidity-soaked days would have been a perfect time for families to make their way to the Rolling Hills Aqua Park in McMurray for some fun on the water slides or under the large bucket that lets loose with a cascade of water every minute or so.
They’ve been out of luck, though, since the park has been closed for a week due to a malfunction involving a half-inch hose that flew off a filtration line and soaked an electrical panel. The panel was damaged as a result.
A technician from the company Vortex Aquatic Structures International, which manufactured and installed the equipment in the park, was due to be there Friday to assess the damage, according to Dave Brooks, Peters Township’s parks and recreation director.
Brooks was reluctant, however, to offer any kind of timeline on when the aqua park would be back in operation – if the problem can be easily fixed, it could be as soon as this weekend, but if it’s more complicated, it will take more time.
“I don’t want to guarantee any kind of date,” Brooks said.
The aqua park opened last August and cost about $6 million. Planning for it started before the COVID-19 pandemic, and, along with its slides and splash pad, it has a pavilion, party room and toddler area.
Brooks acknowledged that this is “the worst time of the year for this to happen.”
He added, “We’re as anxious as anyone else to get this open.”
