Lowering the boom
Workers use a crane Tuesday morning to carefully lower massive pre-cast concrete box culverts into place to eventually channel water from Catfish Creek below Park Avenue in Washington. Workers closed the road for three weeks beginning on June 8 to install the sectional culverts in order to improve stormwater runoff in the notoriously flood-prone intersection at South Main Street in Park Avenue in the city. After this work is done, crews will begin working to install similar box culverts under South Main, which will be closed for 20 weeks during construction. [Mike Jones]
