Bus driver accused of stealing credit cards during Ohiopyle trip
A Maryland bus driver faces charges in Fayette County after students said she racked up charges on their credit cards while they were exploring Ohiopyle State Park.
Monique Logan, 41, of Temple Hills, is charged with three counts each of identity theft, access device fraud and theft by unlawful taking.
Students at Landon School, a private school in Bethesda, Md., had been told to leave their belongings on the bus for safekeeping while they went on the May 19 rafting trip, according to the criminal complaint.
While they were on the river, one of their parents received a bank alert that her son’s card was charged $200 by a company named Let’s Ride DC Tours, the complaint said.
His mother, Jill Olmstead, contacted the company after her son denied making the charges. According to the affidavit of probable cause, she received a call back from an unknown number with the name “Logan Monique.”
Ohiopyle State Park law enforcement applied for Logan’s prior criminal history, which showed prior charges for identity theft, access fraud, theft and similar offenses, according to the affidavit.
The Ohiopyle identity theft charge was graded as a second-degree felony because Logan had been charged with it at least three times, court documents said.
Multiple students told police it appeared someone had gone through their belongings while they were rafting, the complaint said. Two students also reported receiving charges from the same company, bringing the combined total to $700.
Bus operator Haymarket Transportation terminated Logan’s employment in connection with the incident, the complaint said.
A preliminary hearing date had not been set as of Thursday afternoon.
