Pedestrian killed on I-70 near Chestnut Street exit

By Mike Jones 1 min read

A person died early Sunday after being struck by multiple vehicles in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 at the Chestnut Street exit.

The unidentified person was seen lying in the middle of the eastbound lanes in North Franklin Township near the interchange, prompting a tractor-trailer driver to call 911 and report the situation, the Washington County coroner’s office said.

The name of the victim was not immediately released by the coroner’s office. It’s also not known why the person was on the highway.

State police were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4 a.m., according to a Washington County 911 dispatch supervisor. The eastbound lanes were closed while state police investigated.

Information on how many vehicles struck the person was not immediately released.

The interstate reopened later in the morning, the dispatcher said.

A state police spokesman did not immediately respond to a phone message seeking comment on the crash.
