The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near the Taylorstown exit were closed for three hours Thursday afternoon following a head-on crash that killed one person.

Emergency responders were called to the crash near the 10-mile marker of I-70 in Buffalo Township shortly before 1:30 p.m., state police said in a press release.

A sedan traveling east on the interstate crossed the grassy median before crashing head-on into a westbound tractor-trailer, police said. The driver of the car died at the scene while the trucker suffered minor injuries, police said.

Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco said the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The person’s name was not immediately released pending notification to the family.

The state Department of Transportation said the westbound lanes were closed between the Taylorstown and Claysville exits for about three hours before one lane was opened about 4:30 p.m.

Fire departments from Taylorstown, Claysville and North Franklin assisted state police at the scene.
