Man accused of wielding knife in attack at East Washington apartment
A man is accused of getting into a domestic dispute with his estranged wife Tuesday morning and later in the day going to an East Washington apartment and assaulting her and another person before briefly holding them at knifepoint.
Borough police were called to the domestic dispute about 8 a.m. after Dustin James Cochrane allegedly violated a protection from abuse order filed against him by his wife, according to court documents.
Cochrane was gone when police arrived, but he later went to a North Avenue apartment in the borough about 12:40 p.m. with a knife and kicked down the door to get in, police said.
He then allegedly pushed his wife down the stairs and beat her, breaking several of her ribs, police said. The woman complained of pain from the attack and needed medical attention at the scene, police said.
Cochrane, who lives in a different residence in East Washington, also forced another victim into a closet at knifepoint and stole a cellphone and a personal item, according to court documents.
Cochrane left before police arrived, prompting a search for him and his motorcycle, which was found parked in the area near Church of the Covenant on East Beau Street.
Cochrane was not immediately located, prompting borough police officers to file an arrest warrant against him at District Judge Kelly Stewart’s office.
Cochrane, 37, is facing felony charges of robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping to facilitate a felony and burglary, along with misdemeanor counts of stalking, simple assault and theft. He had not been arrested as of late Wednesday afternoon.
