Plant sale

The Church of the Atonement, 618 Washington Ave., Carnegie, is having its annual plant sale May 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out. Perennials grown in a church member’s yard will be available, so customers know the plants will survive our winters. Jade plants and ox tail indoor plants will also be available. If it sprinkles, the plants don’t care, and neither do we, so the sale goes on. If it is forecast to rain heavily, please call 412 447-0844 for additional information. Great prices and all proceeds go to the church for community outreach programs.

Church open house

St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 139 N. Jefferson Ave., Canonsburg, will open its doors for Tour & Tea on May 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. in honor of the parish’s 160 years of ministry. Founded in 1866, St. Thomas’ Church has worshiped in multiple Canonsburg locations before constructing its current building for $5,000 in 1901. Over the years, congregants have upgraded the facility, including installing a series of stained-glass windows in the 1950s and undertaking extensive renovations in the 1970s. Visit on May 16 to learn more about the ways St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church has maintained a presence of Anglican Christianity along Chartiers Creek since just after the U.S. Civil War.
