Sons of Union veterans to honor bugler in Greene ceremony

2 min read

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will conduct a solemn Memorial Day ceremony honoring John Ross Dunn, bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds,” at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek, Greene County.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, and is open to the public.

Dunn served as a bugler in the first of Pennsylvania’s distinguished Civil War cavalry units. Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat. This ceremony seeks to recognize Dunn’s service and sacrifice, as well as to preserve the memory of all who served in the Union forces.

The program will include a historical presentation on Dunn and the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, ceremonial honors conducted by members of the SUVCW, live Civil War drumming and a wreath-laying in remembrance.

Members of the community, local historical societies, veterans’ organizations, and the general public are encouraged to attend and participate in this act of remembrance.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a congressionally chartered organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the men who fought to save the Union during the American Civil War.
