State police: $91K in gambling funds seized from Washington club
More than $91,000 in cash was seized from an unlicensed, private gambling club in Washington, Pennsylvania State Police announced Monday, describing it as one of the largest seizures the liquor control enforcement unit has seen in years.
According to PSP Liquor Control Enforcement Officer Wayne Wright, agents searched the East Prospect Avenue premises of the Independent Political Club on May 12 after receiving a tip.
PSP Liquor Control Enforcement handles both alcohol and gaming enforcement under their operational portfolio.
The search uncovered more than $91,000 in cash and a “Queen of Hearts” game board, which is an unlicensed game of chance under Pennsylvania state law, Wright said.
Wright said the operation had likely been active for over 10 months, and that police are still investigating the full extent of the illegal gaming activities.
Charges against the owners of the club are pending, he said.
State police Troop B spokesperson Rocco Gagliardi credited the “great partnership” between PSP departments for successful enforcement investigation.
Gagliardi encouraged the public to contact Troop B headquarters in Washington at 724-223-5200 for any tips about unlicensed games of chance and other information.
Two publicly available phone numbers associated with the club did not connect calls on Monday afternoon, leaving club representatives inaccessible for comment.
