Ceremony honoring bugler postponed

1 min read

Due to an inclement weather forecast for Saturday, a Memorial Day ceremony rededicating a memorial to Civil War bugler John Ross Dunn at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek, Greene County, has been postponed.

The ceremony will be rescheduled for a later date, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) announced Thursday.

Dunn served as bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds.” Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat.

The future program will include a historical presentation on Dunn and the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, ceremonial honors conducted by members of the SUVCW, live Civil War drumming and a wreath-laying in remembrance.
