Loaded with tents, sunscreen and enough supplies to last the entire 3,700-mile journey from Washington, D.C., to La Push, Wash., a small group of veterans stopped in the South Hills on their cross-country bike journey.

Warrior Expedition is a nonprofit outdoor therapy program that provides veterans with the gear and support needed to complete intense outdoor journeys on bikes, boats and on foot.

Six members of the 2026 Warrior Bike Expedition stayed overnight in Coraopolis on Thursday before setting off for Steubenville, Ohio, the following morning.

U.S. Army veteran Winston Hall said the four-month ride was “exactly what I want to do.”

Winston said the transition back to civilian life can be challenging for veterans, so the long ride is a great opportunity to get out into nature and reflect.

“It’s long-distance therapy,” he said.
