Portion of former Corelle glass plant in Charleroi sold
A nine-acre portion of a former Corelle glass manufacturing facility in Charleroi has been sold to a New Eagle-based manufacturer.
Therm-o-Rock East Inc., a family-owned glass, ceramics and concrete manufacturer, has entered into a purchase agreement to purchase a slice of the 26-acre facility on Eighth Street in Charleroi, which includes infrastructure for glassmaking and a warehouse. The remaining 17 acres of the site is still listed as being for sale on the website of the GA Group, a realty company based in suburban Los Angeles.
According to Jim Elliott, the CEO of Anchor Hocking, “We are very pleased to have reached this agreement and, most importantly, to see a path toward bringing new economic activity and jobs back to Washington County. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in getting us to this point and look forward to seeing the facility begin its next chapter.”
The sale is expected to close by the end of the year.
The Corelle facility closed in April 2025 after Anchor Hocking decided to move its operations to a plant in Lancaster, Ohio, which resulted in about 300 jobs being lost. It was one of several recent setbacks for Charleroi, which also lost a food-processing company and pasta-making plant around the same time the Corelle plant closed, resulting in the loss of about 350 additional jobs. Pyrex kitchenware was made at the Corelle plant, which had been part of Charleroi for about 130 years.
Before it closed, a French glassmaker had agreed to purchase the plant and spend $125 million refurbishing it, but the deal was vetoed by the Federal Trade Commission.
A representative of Therm-o-Rock East could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
