2000 Turkey campaign advances as Thanksgiving approaches

With just three weeks until Thanksgiving, 2000 Turkeys is closing in on its goal of making certain all families in Washington County can enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
For more than 40 years, 2000 Turkeys has helped to bridge the gap for those in need at Thanksgiving. Working in partnership with the Greater Washington County Food Bank and City Mission’s Boxes of Love, the funds raised will go directly to helping neighbors in Washington County.
2000 Turkeys aims to raise $150,000 and has crested the $100,000 mark with the help of individuals, corporations and organizations.
This week, Washington Financial Bank presented a check for $15,000 and a check for $5,000 from the bank’s charitable foundation for a total of $20,000.
Michael Chaido, president and CEO of Washington Financial Bank, presented the $15,000 check, and Jasmine Hughes, vice president of marketing and public relations, presented the charitable foundation’s donation of $5,000 at WJPA Radio Thursday.
Longtime supporters of 2000 Turkeys, he said, “Several years ago, we saw the food insecurity needs in Washington County growing at an alarming level and decided that we needed to increase our annual 2000 Turkeys contribution to a level that could make a significant impact.”
Chaido said during the radio program that his team looks forward each year to 2000 Turkeys.
“As an organization headquartered here in Washington for more than 125 years, we feel it’s our responsibility to step up for our community. Our board members and staff live in this community. Our customers live in this community. It’s important to all of us that our bank and charitable foundation contributions are impacting our neighbors, especially as we see food insecurity continuing to increase in our own backyard. We are committed to ensuring that when our community has a need, we are a meaningful part of the solution.”
