Alabama man accused of pistol whipping woman, firing gun in Washington
An Alabama man is facing felony charges after Washington police said he pistol whipped a woman and then fired a gunshot into the ground next to her during an argument outside her city residence early Monday morning.
Police said they were called to the 300 block of Locust Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. for a report of a gunshot fired in the neighborhood.
Police said they spoke to a woman who told them that Destin Johnson, with whom she was having an intimate relationship, attacked her after he saw her with another man, according to court documents.
The woman told investigators that Johnson pistol whipped her in the head during an argument outside her home and then continued to assault her, police said. Johnson then allegedly fired one gunshot into the ground next to her, leaving an indentation in the concrete, according to court documents.
Police said Johnson left the scene in a tractor-trailer he was driving, but was located in the parking lot of the Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in North Strabane, where he was arrested.
Johnson, 41, of Birmingham, was arraigned Monday morning by District Judge Phillippe Melograne on two felony counts of aggravated assault, along with person not to possess a firearm, simple assault, reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, possessing an instrument of crime and carrying a firearm without a license. He is being held without bond at the Washington County jail while awaiting his preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Oct. 14 at 2:45 p.m.
