‘Amity and Prosperity’ author to speak at Pitt Greensburg campus
Eliza Griswold, who chronicled the impact of fracking on Washington County residents in her 2018 book “Amity and Prosperity,” will be at the Greensburg campus of the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday, Oct. 22.
Griswold won a Pulitzer Prize for her work, and it touches on such issues as community division, politics and identity and economic revitalization alongside possible harms that can result.
“Amity and Prosperity” is the 2026 Westmoreland Reads common read selection. According to Sheila Confer, an assistant professor of interdisciplinary studies at the campus and the founder of Westmoreland Reads, “I want people reading more books. Anytime we can get a group of people together to read and discuss the same material, interesting and eye-opening conversations can happen.”
Griswold will be at the Ferguson Theater on the Pitt Greensburg campus at 7 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
