Waynesburg man arrested in child sex sting
A Waynesburg man was arrested Monday in a sting operation after being accused of attempting to meet up for sexual activity with people he thought were minors.
Brandon Brumley, 33, was taken into custody at the Fort Mason Village housing development Monday night after a joint investigation by the Masontown Police Department and the online vigilante group 814 PredHunters.
Over the previous two months, court documents said, Brumley texted with a decoy from the group, who was posing as a 15-year-old girl, asking for and sending naked photos and requesting to meet up for sex.
On Oct. 7, the 814 PredHunters group showed their chat logs to Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele, who referred them to Masontown police for investigation, the complaint said.
Posing as the decoy, Masontown Police Chief Thomas O’Barto set up a meeting at Fort Mason Village, Aubele said in a release.
Brumley had intended a sexual encounter with the decoy and another girl that would also include illegal drugs, the complaint said.
When Brumley arrived at the site Monday night, Masontown police officers placed him under arrest, Aubele said.
Brumley is charged with unlawful contact with a minor, sexual exploitation of children, criminal use of a telecommunication facility, dissemination of sexual materials to a minor and corruption of minors.
Judge Nathan Henning denied bail for Brumley, calling him a threat to himself and others and saying more charges were pending.
Brumley’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28.
