Locust Avenue on track for October reopening
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation representatives confirmed that Locust Avenue will reopen in mid-October, even after two flash floods washed through the area in August.
The road in South Strabane Township has been closed since March following a rainstorm resulting in a small landslide that damaged the roadway.
PennDOT District 12 Community Relations Coordinator Melissa Maczko confirmed in a statement that the project is on schedule and Locust Avenue will reopen to public use sometime in mid-October.
The project, which began in late July, will include related slope stabilization and local drainage upgrades to the site.
Maczko estimated in August that the full repair project will cost between $1 million to $2 million in state emergency funding.
Until then, the current detour following Country Club Road will remain in place, she said.
