Chartiers weighs police department renovations
The Chartiers Township Board of Supervisors is considering a rescoped package of renovations at the Chartiers Township Police Department building within the township municipal complex.
According to Township Manager Jodi Noble, the revised project includes constructing a locker room for female police officers, a secure records storage area and an interview room.
The initial project design would have cost approximately $600,000, Noble said, and the board asked for a revised scope to bring the total cost down to around $400,000.
Noble said the revised project still represents a “functional and necessary” for the department, which currently employs 13 full-time officers to provide 24/7 coverage of the township.
The board is also considering whether to include a comprehensive roof replacement of the police portion of the municipal building in the renovation project.
Noble said no one currently at the township knows when that portion of roof was installed, but estimated it to be at least 30 years old.
The board will consider whether to include the roof within the renovation effort once the township receives a quote from a local roofing contractor, she said.
The township issued around $3 million in bonds in late 2024 to cover a host of necessary capital improvement projects, Foster said, with enough funds remaining to cover the police department renovations.
