Cecil’s Generations Room work delayed
The Cecil Township Board of Supervisors tabled a motion to award a contract for a comprehensive renovation to the Generations Room after the single submitted bid was out of budget and limited in scope.
According to Supervisor Chairman Frank Egizio, the board opted to delay the bid award during a Tuesday night meeting in order to advertise the project and hopefully attract a wider range of bidders.
Egizio said the board hoped the submitted bids would come in around $65,000, of which the township can use up to $71,500 in state grant funding that was awarded in August 2026.
The Generations Room, which hosts the Cecil/McDonald Senior Center and county programming for local seniors, can benefit from the renovation project which will bring it up to modern standards.
Supervisor Cindy Fisher described the status of the room earlier this summer as “in desperate need of repairs,” due to heavy use throughout the year.
The renovation project will replace the room’s floors, add storage space, install automatic doors and repaint the walls, among a number of other improvements.
The single bid submitted to the township since August only included the floor replacement, not any of the other components of the renovation project, Egizio said.
Once the township awards the project contract to a qualified bidder, Egizio estimates that the construction work will take between four to five weeks, during which senior programming will be relocated to the Cecil Township Fire Department hall.
Egizio said the township hoped to have construction begin the first week of October, but that timeline is now uncertain due to the delay to attract new bidders.
In other business, the board announced the completion of the roof replacement effort on the Cecil Township Municipal Building.
Manassas, Virginia-based Vertex Roofing Contractors Inc. used approximately $157,000 in township funding and under two weeks of work to replace the previous roof with a new asphalt shingle system, and to install new gutters and downspouts.
Egizio said the roof project was completed the first week of September.
