Police chase involving stolen car ends in crash
An Allenport woman driving a stolen car led police on a chase in the Mon Valley that ended in a crash in Fallowfield Township.
A Charleroi Regional police officer was posted in his police cruiser in the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue in North Charleroi about 10 p.m. Saturday when he saw a hatchback car with its driver’s side window down and marijuana smoke emanating from the vehicle, according to court documents.
A similar looking car had been reported stolen earlier in the day, and the police officer confirmed it was the same vehicle when checking its registration information while following close behind. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off, eventually traveling into Charleroi before turning around and going back to North Charleroi.
The chase continued into Fallowfield Township, where the car crashed into a pickup truck at Coyle Curtain Road and Route 481, police said. The driver of the pickup truck was injured but able to get out of his vehicle.
The woman driving the car, 33-year-old Jessica Lynn Rose, ran from the vehicle and was arrested in a nearby field as police officers from multiple departments swarmed the area, according to court documents. Rose was eventually arrested and she allegedly gave officers a false name before being taken to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital for treatment of a leg injury and to be tested for marijuana, which she refused.
Rose is facing felony counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, receiving stolen property, flight to avoid apprehension, evading arrest and fleeing, along with misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, false identification to police, simple assault, disorderly conduct and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
She was arraigned by District Judge Michael Manfredi and sent to the Washington County jail on $350,000 bond while awaiting her preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Sept. 17 at 10 a.m.
