An Allenport man died Friday after he was hit by a train in the borough.

Anthony Michael Chilzer, 43, was pronounced dead after he was struck by a Norfolk Southern train in Allenport about 5:10 p.m., according to Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco.

According to the release from Warco’s office, Chilzer was hit while attempting to cross the tracks near Bridge Street in Allenport on his motorized wheelchair. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A video recorded by a nearby rail enthusiast shows that the legally-required warning signals and crossing gates were both active when Chilzer attempted to cross the rail intersection, the coroner’s office said.

Warco was assisted at the scene by Rostraver Ambulance, the Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department and Pennsylvania State Police. The incident is currently under investigation by the coroner’s office in conjunction with R.E.S.A Police and Norfolk Southern Police.
