Ready to reopen

Construction crews work Tuesday putting the finishing touches on the Catfish Creek culvert replacement project in Washington while painting crosswalks on the roadway at South Main Street and Park Avenue. The state Department of Transportation announced the intersection would reopen to traffic Tuesday afternoon after South Main Street had been closed since mid-July and Park Avenue had been closed for three weeks in June while under construction.The previous culvert, which was built in 1928, was removed and replaced with a new reinforced concrete box culvert as part of PennDOT’s $2.25 million project to improve stormwater management and flooding at the Y-intersection on the south side of the city.
