A married couple was killed over the weekend when their vehicle went off the road in West Bethlehem Township.

Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco identified the victims as Brittany and Joseph Crile. Brittany Crile, 36, of Waynesburg, was operating the vehicle while Joseph Crile, 46, of Marianna, was in the front passenger seat. According to state police, the two were husband and wife.

Officials believe the accident occurred sometime between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. According to state police, troopers were called at 9:22 a.m. to 80 Clarksville Road. Police said the vehicle went off the road and traveled about 100 feet down an embankment, landing on its roof.

Brittany Crile was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The coroner declared her dead at the scene at 10:49 a.m.

State police spokesperson Rocco Gagliardi said troopers believed a passenger had managed to leave the scene based on items left behind in the vehicle.

“They spent a good part of the day looking for the other half of that incident,” Gagliardi said.

According to Gagliardi, Joseph Crile’s body was found in an abandoned home about 400 feet northwest of the crash site.

According to the coroner, Brittany Crile was not wearing a seatbelt.

Marianna Fire Department and Ambulance and Chair also responded to the scene.

State police continue to investigate.
