Discarded fireworks ignite fire in South Strabane
Discarded fireworks resulted in a house fire in South Strabane Township Friday night.
Jordan Cramer, South Strabane fire chief, said firefighters were dispatched to the Bradford Run development before 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Township police already were in the area responding to complaints about fireworks.
“Because of that, they were able to confirm pretty quickly that there was an actual working structure fire,” Cramer said. “It’s not too far from our station, so crews were on the scene in about three minutes. It started from discarded fireworks. Folks had been using some fireworks earlier in the day and threw them in a bin. It was next to the house. That caught fire and caught the exterior of the home on fire.”
Cramer said the fire caused significant damage to the exterior of the home, as well as some minor damage inside.
The residents of the home were able to get out safely, other than a minor injury suffered by one of the residents. That person was not transported to the hospital and refused medical attention at the scene.
Joining South Strabane firefighters were their units from North Strabane, Canon Township and Chartiers Township.
