Washington County women who are leaders in education, manufacturing, medicine and other areas are among the finalists for the ATHENA Leadership Award this year.
Presented by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, the finalists are:
– Shelley Baber, the environmental, health and safety director for the electrical engineering and systems division of Eaton Corp. in Washington.
– Mary Barkhymer, the chief nursing officer at Advanced Surgical Hospital in Washington.
– Dr. Bobbi Cumpston, director of veterans affairs for Washington County.

– Tracie Liberatore, executive director of the Bradford House Historical Association.
Also, Kimberly Price, who directs corporate ventures affairs for EQT Corp., is this year’s recipient of the Diana Irey Vaughan ATHENA Young Professional Award.
The ATHENA awards are named for the mythological Greek goddess who was said to possess strength, wisdom and enlightenment, and honor those who have helped women reach their potential as leaders, and have demonstrated initiative in their own professional lives. The first ATHENA honors were given in Michigan in 1982.
“The award promotes women’s leadership by honoring exceptional individuals in the community who contribute in significant ways to the achievements of women and women’s leadership issues,” according to Jeff Kotula, president of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.
Price and the ATHENA Leadership Award finalists will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe Friday, May. 9. The keynote speaker will be Christine Blaine, the CEO of Sports Facility, the parent company of the Washington Wild Things.
