The lazy days of summer are dwindling as many schools in Washington, Greene and Fayette counties are kicking off the 2025-26 school year this month.

Bentworth School District is among the first to head back to school, and students started classes on Tuesday. Students in grades K-4 arrived at Bentworth Elementary School and stepped off school buses, sporting new backpacks and water bottles and first-day-of-school outfits as teachers and staff, including special education teacher Michele Colbert, greeted them.

“There is always that excitement of a new school year and everything that brings. The first day of school is always special,” said Superintendent Scott Martin. “We’re happy with how the first day went, and we are looking forward to a good school year.”

Trinity Area is among the school districts that start classes after Labor Day. The first day of classes for Trinity students is Sept. 2.
