Washington man charged after shots fired
Washington police arrested a man Sunday evening after he was accused of firing a gun during a domestic incident, triggering a shelter-in-place order at Washington & Jefferson College.
William Coles, 65, of Washington, faces felony charges of aggravated assault and prohibited possession of a firearm, and misdemeanors of simple assault and reckless endangerment.
According to police, at about 7:44 p.m. officers were called to the 80 block of North Main Street for a domestic incident. Court paperwork states that police were told Coles was experiencing a “PTSD episode.”
Police learned the shots had been fired in the area of 71 N. Main. Police temporarily shut down the 10 block of the road, and W&J issued a shelter-in-place order during the incident.
No injuries were reported, and Coles was taken into custody without incident.
Coles was arraigned Monday morning before District Judge Joshua Kanalis, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 17.
