Child struck by motorcycle during Canonsburg July 4 parade
A child was taken to the hospital after being injured during a mishap at the Canonsburg Fourth of July Parade.
Mayor Dave Rhome said the accident occurred near the location of the Scarmazzi Homes office on Adams Avenue.
“The Shriners were on their motorcycles, doing their tricks and riding in circles,” Rhome said. “From what I heard, one of the Shriners hit a young child. Our safety plan was kicked in. Police, fire and EMS were on the spot within seconds.”
Rhome said the patient was taken to AHN/Canonsburg Hospital.
“As far as I know right now, the patient is going to be OK,” Rhome said.
That also is what a person who identified herself as the child’s mother said in a Facebook post. Her Facebook post also said the child was eventually taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. She also stated a pregnant woman was struck as well.
Rhome said other than that incident, the 62nd annual parade was part of a great day of holiday festivities.
“It was just a great, great day,” he said. “This ranks up there with one of our top parades. Over that two-mile stretch, they were anywhere from three to 10 deep along the sidewalk. I don’t have any incidents of misbehavior. I think everybody enjoyed the whole day.”
