Washington man killed in Mercer County accident

A Washington man died Sunday after he was hit by a vehicle in Mercer County.

The Mercer County coroner’s office identified the man as 92-year-old Edward Wiszczor Sr.

According to the coroner, the accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Route 19 in Fairview Township.

State police said Wiszczor “ran out on the roadway” from the west side of the road and was struck by a vehicle being operated by 23-year-old Benjamin Williams of Volant.

Wiszczor was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 p.m. Mercer County Chief Deputy Coroner Robert Snyder determined he died from multiple injuries and ruled the death accidental.

According to his obituary, Wiszczor was a veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 175 and the Moose Lodge in Washington.

“He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family,” Wiszczor’s obituary reads.

Wiszczor worked for Molycorp as a steel worker for 35 years, according to the obituary.
