A Chartiers Township man is accused of possessing child sexual abuse material.

The state attorney general’s office charged Jason Wayne Ayres, 46, with felony charges for possession of the illicit material, and an additional felony for criminal use of a communication facility. The charges were filed Wednesday.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators found in November that material depicting the sexual abuse of children had been downloaded at Ayres’ home in the 800 block of McClane Farm Road.

On Wednesday morning, agents with the attorney general’s office and Chartiers Township police officers served a search warrant at the home and seized a laptop. Investigators found at least three files of child sexual abuse material on the computer, charging documents state.

Ayres allegedly admitted to investigators that he had downloaded and viewed the material, according to the complaint.

District Judge Phillippe Melograne arraigned Ayres Wednesday night and sent him to the Washington County jail on $250,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. July 29.
