SWAT standoff ends in man’s death

A man died by suicide after a lengthy standoff with SWAT teams that lasted from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning in Monongahela.
Washington County Coroner Timothy Warco identified the man as 36-year-old Zachry Hamilton, of Monongahela. Warco’s report states Hamilton’s cause and manner of death are still under investigation, but his death is being investigated as a suicide.
According to a Washington County 911 supervisor, police were called at about 7:30 p.m. to 1241 Fourth St. for a domestic dispute.
Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said Hamilton allegedly assaulted a woman. Walsh could not provide the relationship between the two, but said they had children together.
According to Walsh, the woman fled the home with their children and went to a neighbor’s to call 911, and Hamilton barricaded himself inside.
The woman was hospitalized with significant injuries, Walsh said.
Warco’s report states that SWAT teams used a drone and saw Hamilton with an apparent gunshot wound at about 12:16 a.m. Thursday. He was declared dead at 1:50 a.m.
According to Walsh, there was no gunfire exchanged between Hamilton and law enforcement. Investigators found Hamilton in an upstairs bedroom.
Responding to the incident were SWAT teams from Washington and Beaver counties, Charleroi Regional Police Department, Carroll Township police, Tri-Community EMS and Southeast Regional EMS.
Monongahela City police are investigating.
