Oakdale man charged in animal cruelty case arrested in Washington County

Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man in Washington County on animal cruelty charges over the weekend.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, deputies arrested Joshua Humes at about 6 a.m. Saturday after tracking him to a trailer in Bulger.
Humes, 36, of Oakdale, was charged last week by North Fayette Township police with more than 50 charges related to animal cruelty and neglect, including six felonies.
According to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Department, Humes was meant to surrender himself to North Fayette Township police Monday, but investigators learned he may have been planning to leave the area.
According to the criminal complaint, Humes had several dogs living in “deplorable” conditions in a camper at 7231 Noblestown Road, Oakdale, including the buildup of feces, urine, and a lack of food.
Charging documents state that at least four dogs were being kept in small wire cages when police went to the camper the afternoon of June 30.
Humes agreed to surrender the dogs to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, and six pitbull-mix puppies were removed.
Humes was arraigned Saturday morning before District Judge Jack Kearney, who sent him to the Allegheny County jail without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 28.
