Bentworth Middle School administrators, staff and students were presented a banner that recognizes its redesignation as a School to Watch.

For the fourth time, Bentworth Middle School has been designated in the Pennsylvania Don Eichorn Schools: Schools to Watch program.

On May 23, the middle school was presented with its fourth banner, recognizing it as a National and State Level School to Watch.

The Schools to Watch program, established in 1999 by the National Forum – Advancing Excellence in Middle Grades, recognizes schools achieving academic excellence based on several factors.

The criteria Bentworth met was based on academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity and organizational support and processes.

Principal David Schreiber said the middle school “worked diligently to improve year after year and to receive this award.”

“The (administration) would like to thank the students, parents, guardians, teachers, staff, community members, school administration, and the Bentworth School Board of Directors for their continued support of Bentworth Middle School and its programming that focuses on meeting the developmental needs of young adolescents,” said Schreiber in an email.

The designation is valid for three years, at which time a school must reapply for redesignation. It is the third redesignation for the school.

Bentworth Middle School was recognized at the PAMLE (Pennsylvania Association for Middle Level Education) state conference in Pittsburgh in February. The school also will be recognized at the National Forum Schools to Watch conference in Washington, D.C., on June 27.
