Burgettstown man charged for assaulting officers
Greene County Regional Police Department charged a man Wednesday with felony assault after officers shattered a vehicle window during a traffic stop.
In addition to aggravated assault, Bradley Raymond Pierce also faces several misdemeanor charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and driving under the influence.
According to the criminal complaint, at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday police pulled Pierce over for an expired inspection at 800 Henderson Ave., Canton Township.
Pierce, 30, of Burgettstown, allegedly had bloodshot and glassy eyes. Police write in the complaint that Pierce went “ballistic” and that his behavior shifted between “calm and hysterical.”
Charging documents state that Pierce rolled up his window and refused to get out of the vehicle. Officers entered the vehicle by breaking the driver’s window to open the door, and then physically removed him.
Pierce is accused of continuing to resist while police took him into custody. One officer had several cuts to his forearm while another officer had abrasions to his left arm.
Court records do not specify if the cuts to the officer’s forearm were caused by glass from the broken window or Pierce’s attempts to resist arrest.
According to the complaint, police found a pipe used to smoke marijuana and empty packages of marijuana edibles in the vehicle.
Pierce was arraigned Wednesday afternoon before District Judge John Bruner, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3 p.m. May 20.
