Houston man accused of assaulting police officer

Canonsburg police arrested a Houston man accused of punching a police officer Tuesday.

Clark C. Campbell III, 41, faces a felony charge of aggravated assault and misdemeanors of resisting arrest, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

According to the criminal complaint, at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to Campbell’s home in the 300 block of East Pike Street for a domestic situation.

Charging documents state that when officers arrived Campbell walked to a neighboring home and began tearing up recently planted grass seed.

Campbell then is accused of getting into a vehicle and refusing to get out. According to the complaint, while police attempted to take Campbell into custody he punched a Chartiers Township officer twice in the head.

Campbell was arraigned Tuesday afternoon before District Judge James Saieva, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. June 10.
