Canonsburg man charged after driving away from traffic stop, crashing
State police charged a Canonsburg man accused of driving away from troopers during a traffic stop and crashing the vehicle.
Adam Andrew Snatchko, 53, faces felony charges of theft by unlawful taking, flight to avoid apprehension, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and escape.
According to the criminal complaint, shortly before midnight on Saturday police pulled a vehicle over in the 200 block of Murtland Avenue for expired registration.
Police asked the driver, 46-year-old Terrence Augustine, to step out of the vehicle. Snatchko was in the front passenger seat.
Charging documents state that troopers learned there was a warrant for Snatchko’s arrest.
According to the complaint, while police interviewed Augustine, Snatchko moved from the passenger seat to the driver’s seat and drove away at high speeds.
Snatchko allegedly drove over the divider on Murtland Avenue and began driving the wrong way on Interstate 70 eastbound, court documents state.
About a half-hour later, police found the driver had abandoned the vehicle after crashing into the park and ride fence near exit 16 on I-70.
Court records allege that police found suspected crack cocaine in the vehicle.
Snatchko also faces misdemeanor charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance.
There is an active warrant for Snatchko’s arrest.
