MLD Meadows Landing LLC hopes to build a development of 401 homes behind Landings Drive. One of the entrances would be off of the roundabout near the Washington Area Federal Credit Union.

The South Strabane Township planning commission recommended the supervisors move ahead with a new housing development.

Members of the commission voted unanimously at their meeting Thursday on the recommendation that the board of supervisors approve preliminary land development for Meadows Landing.

Developer MLD Meadows Landing LLC is planning to build a development of 401 residential homes behind Landings Drive just off of Route 19.

At their meeting in July, supervisors voted to approve the developer’s conditional use application.

The planning commission’s vote on Thursday does not grant their land development application, and is only a recommendation for the supervisors, who have the ultimate say. MLD Meadows Landing will also need approval for final land development.

Meadows Landing will have 170 single-family homes, 90 duplexes and 141 townhouses.

At the July supervisors meeting, residents expressed concern about the development only having two entrances about 1,000 feet apart, as well as the effect the housing plan would have on Route 19 traffic.

The supervisors’ approval of the conditional use application was contingent on the developer building a fence between the construction site and neighboring properties. The developer will also have to pay traffic impact fees.

The board of supervisors holds its next meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the South Strabane Township Municipal Building.
